What is Film Carnage?

After establishing the site in 2015, the overall aim of Film Carnage has become entirely about celebrating indie film in its many different forms. Whether it’s a short or a feature, no matter the genre, the goal is simply to help filmmakers by highlighting the amazing work they’re doing and giving genuinely honest, constructive reviews.

Having read countless reviews, one thing that always stuck out to me was how often the majority of the review simply recounted what happened in the film, and so little of it actually provided an explanation of what they thought worked or didn’t. Often meaning it was either very difficult to tell what decided the rating, or it felt like the rating didn’t reflect the contents of the review.

So with that in mind, I wanted to be able to provide filmmakers with something tangible, reviews that give real feedback. Which are also written in a way that makes a sincere effort to keep the filmmakers’ intentions in mind, as well as the typical budget, time and other constraints which come from working in the indie world.

Reviews will always be subjective, but the aim with Film Carnage is to make the extra effort to think about how well the filmmakers achieved what they set out to do, and whether that works for the audience they’re looking for, not purely whether it works for me.

Who is Film Carnage?

A little info on who runs the site for anyone who’s curious: I’m Rebecca, I’m a one person team, I’ve written every review featured on the site (which is over 2,500 as of 2026) and will continue doing so as long as you keep sending in your films.

How can I submit my film for review?

For the free submission, all you need to do is send a screener, a couple of stills and a trailer (if you have one, but don’t worry if you don’t) to cherryfilms7@gmail.com, and that’s it. If you have any questions at all, about the submission process, reviews etc. please feel free to ask. As long as it’s something I can be of help with, I’m happy to provide any advice or suggestions.

Please include the title of your film in the subject line, and if there is any other information you’d like to provide, i.e. background info, upcoming festivals or director’s statements, feel free to do so. The screener needs to be provided without ads, so can’t be submitted using links to streaming platforms.

Unfortunately, after so many years of running the site, with the amount of submissions, festivals and releases to cover, I can no longer make any guarantees or provide a timeline with the free option, but I aim to cover as many as I possibly can.

Please note: Films created using AI tools are not currently eligible for submission.

What paid review services are available?

If you’re looking for a quicker turnaround (1-2 weeks), a guaranteed review (received in up to 4 weeks), or would like the option to keep the review private, I offer those options for a small fee. You can find more info and the form to fill out to request these services here.

All paid submissions are extremely appreciated as those funds keep the site running. Film Carnage is an independently run site, there are no sponsors, no partners, no backers, and no ugly advertising or pop-ups to ruin the reviews. The more people who opt for the paid services, means the more time that I can dedicate to writing reviews, so I kindly ask that you keep that in mind when choosing either the free or paid submission.
