In case you were hoping you hadn’t heard about this in a while so maybe it had disappeared into that place where undecided reboots gather dust, I’m afraid not, it is still going ahead and has now found its director in the form of Jake Kasdan. Kasdan might not be a name that rings a bell but you may have seen some of his films: Zero Effect, Orange County, The TV Set, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Bad Teacher and Sex Tape. This sum of his feature directorial efforts does not give a huge amount of assurance that he’s exactly the right fit for Jumanji but Sony apparently has faith in him, and a deadline given that they want the film in cinemas by Christmas next year. Jumanji is a much loved film for any child or even adult for the last 20 years, and there will be many who disagree with the idea of remake which could possible ruin it but seeing as it is past the point of being stopped, it just has to be hoped that it doesn’t interfere with the original. As to what this reboot will actually look like, there’s little information at the moment other than it will potentially be leaning very heavily on the special effects, we all realise what could be done with the story given the developments in technology, especially 3D, but will that make any improvement on the story or will it just be a cheap way to get people into cinemas? I guess we’ll find out next year.
