Overall there’s been some well deserved winners, Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio and their films respectively are more than worthy; and I’m very pleased that Brie Larson won. However there are a few I am not surprised by but disagree with, Jennifer Lawrence’s predictable win should have been taken home by Lily Tomlin without question or as a backup, Amy Schumer but Lawrence’s work on Joy was not her best. Secondly, Sylvester Stallone returning as Rocky should be not shocking to anyone as a winner but the award should have gone to Mark Rylance for his amazing work on Bridge of Spies and I am keeping my fingers crossed he doesn’t go overlooked the rest of the award season. The only last thing I would disagree with is Spectre’s song winning, but that’s personal preference because I wasn’t a fan ever since the first time I heard it but again it’s a completely predictable win.

Now let the predictions begin as we all know the firsts to win can be a good insight into how this year will go, last year Julianne Moore began at the Golden Globes and took her tour of success to win everything on offer (for good reason, that’s one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever seen). Will this be a good sign that DiCaprio might finally bag that Oscar? Will Larson be able to cut it at the highest level? Will the predictions for Redmayne’s win be blown out of the water? Will Ex Machina and Sicario go down like all of those great films that never got awards recognition? We can’t say for sure but it’s a tonne of fun speculating and I can’t wait for the rest of the awards to keep rolling.
